General Information

What is the Pineapple Classic 5K?

The Pineapple Classic 5K is a Hawaiian-themed, 5K obstacle course with a post event luau, live entertainment and a beer garden. Participants include serious competitors to families and walkers. 100% of every dollar raised by participants in the 2016 Pineapple Classic 5K will directly fund specific, near-term, high impact projects at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, City of Hope and Educating Haiti (see Who We Support). To date, the Pineapple Classic has raised over $500,000 all for the benefit of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

What is the Pineapple Classic Foundation?

The Pineapple Classic Foundation is a not-for-profit dedicated to funding research to cure cancer and related conditions as well as other cancer-related causes.  Pineapple Classic was founded by cancer survivors and others who have had the arc of their lives altered by cancer.  Our goal is to enable our participants and donors to make a difference and have fun.  The PIneapple Classic Foundation is volunteer operated and has no paid employees.

Who Benefits from the Funds Raised by the Pineapple Classic?

We seek to maximize our donors’ gifts by directing their funds to specific, near-term, impactful projects and not to the corporate overhead of other organizations.  100% of every dollar raised by participants in the 2016 Pineapple Classic 5K will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, City of Hope and Educating Haiti (see Who We Support).  To date, the Pineapple Classic 5K has raised over $500,000, all for the benefit of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  For 2016, our particpants and donors have the opportunity to direct their gifts to specific, near-term, high-impact projects at the charities listed above.

How Quickly are Donated Funds Deployed by Pineapple Classic?

The Pineapple Classic expects to distribute all funds raised by participants by no later than November 30, 2016. Our objective is to rapidly and efficiently translate our donor’s dollars into meaningful action. This means not only do 100% of the funds raised by our participants go to their selected charities, but also those dollars will be deployed in support of specific projects (i.e. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society running a ground-breaking clinical trial, City of Hope conducting innovative basic research, and Educating Haiti constructing a highly needed school in Haiti with a classroom honoring Elizabeth Benn, an old Greenwich Elementary School teacher who died after a long battle with Leukemia). Our observation is that many charities have high overhead and can be slow to deploy their capital. The Pineapple Classic Foundation, was created to give donors a frictionless means of getting their dollars directly to the mission, where they count. The Pineapple Classic Foundation is volunteer operated with no paid employees.

You also can come just to watch.  Spectators may purchase access to the Luau tent with food and drinks online or at the event for $25.
